The tight leads of Rep. Martin McLaughlin (R-Barrington Hills) and Rep. Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) narrowed further Tuesday as election authorities continued to report counts of late-arriving mail in ballots.
Grant’s lead over Democrat Jackie Williamson was cut from 326 to 300 votes as the DuPage County Clerk’s office added 60 votes to the total in the race, which broke 47-17 for Williamson.
McLaughlin’s lead over Democrat Maria Peterson closed by 264 votes, leaving McLaughlin with a 514 vote lead. Peterson tightened the margin by 153 votes in Lake County and 111 votes in Cook County.
McHenry County has not reported any new results since election night. The Clerk’s office there reports about 4,500 ballots that remain to be counted, but it isn’t clear how many would fall in the McLaughlin/Peterson race.
“It’s going to be close, but they’re going to be fine,” one top Republican said about McLaughlin and Grant Tuesday.
No new results were reported in the tight 104th District race between Rep. Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) and Democrat Jarrett Clem. Schweizer’s lead remains at 524 votes.
